Can you lose your job b/c of your hair color/style???

I just got my hair done, all blond on top %26amp; dark brown under neath. My boss said I have to talk to him about my job %26amp; my new hair style b/c he does not like it. I think that he is going to try to get me to change it or treaten me with my job, CAN HE DO THAT??? If he can not then I WILL NOT CHANGE it back. I am a grown woman %26amp; don't feel the need to have permission to color my hair.





it is not pink, blue or any other crazy color. It is not sticking up like a mowhawk or anything crazy like that. He is just old school %26amp; does not like the change.

Unless you have a contract or MOU then you can be fired for any reason at anytime as long as it is not based on race, religion, sex, color, etc etc etc.....





So yes, you can be fired for your boss not liking your hair color. I think it is good that he/she is going to talk to you about it, and giving you a chance to change it. It shows they want to keep you as an employee as long as you are willing to change.
Reply:If there is a company policy in place and you were aware of it prior to being hired, like, for eg, if it's in the company manual. Also, most states are at will employment states which means employment can be terminated at any time for any reason, of chourse, there are discrimination laws in place, but companies can have policys reguarding employees hair styles. The National Labor Relations Board is the place to contact for employer issues. You could always try to start a union.

If he thinks your hair style is a distraction, that is sufficient reason.

He should be able to set the terms of your employment, but you should know the terms ahead of time.

Reply:Yes he can. If you work directly with the public and you are not representing the company in the light they feel is appropriate, you betcha you can lose your job.
Reply:I think bosses can fire you for just about anything now a days. Almost all employers have a dress/appearance code; violate that and you have to find another job that does allow it.
