They probably think your resume is fabricated even though it's real because you worked with your family and so your family are your references. Employers know that family members could easily make you look very good so you can get a job. Very many employers don't accept family members as your work references, which is why they are not taking your applications/resumes seriously.
Reply:work on your resume and make it an excellent one to get job, which suits your interest. You should take the help of consultant to make an attractive resume. Then You should submit your resume to leading jobsite like www.monster.com, www.careerbuilder.com. Also you should consult local placement consultant in your area. In the meantime, look out for an option to work online. Although it wont pay you like full time job but you can make extra cash in your spare time. Reply:I dont think so. You might want to rethink your application process-from your resume to your cover letter to the interview to the followup calls.


Your resume and cover letter should be revised for EACH AND EVERY JOB you are applying for. I'm serious! Use "key words" found in either the job ad/descripton OR the company's website.


Of course, you never wear jeans/casual clothes to an interview, and remove any/all piercings and cover up the tattoos.

Reply:Not likely. Have you had interviews? If no, then there is something wrong with your application and or resume. I don't call people that don't completely fill out an application. In resume's I look for experience relevent to my need. If they have no experience in what I'm looking for, they don't make it to the pile. Are you applying for jobs in a field where you have experience?


If you are getting interviews, then that means there isn't anything wrong with your application - it's how your interviewing. You'd be surprised how many people have great resumes and then blow the interview. MSN Careerbuilder has a lot of great interviewing tips. You don't need to mention that it's a family business unless they specifically ask. Focus on what you have done that is relevant to what they are looking for. I just interviewed a guy a few days that wouldn't shut up! He went on and on and on, about nothing. I interviewed another woman whose cell phone went off during the interview - it actually happens a lot. What never happens is what she did next - she answered it!!!!! I kicked her out of my office. You've got to be kidding. I recommend having friends give you mock interviews where they ask you questions and then critique your performance. Always wear a suit! I don't care if you're applying to be a cook at McDonalds. It shows the interviewer you're serious and a level of respect. It will set you apart from 95% of the other canidates out there that think jeans to their knees, tee shirts and hats are current interview attire!!

A potential employer does not need to know that your last job was with a family owned business. You can leave that off your resume.
Reply:It could be a number of things ... impossible to tell without seeing your resume. Try to get a pro to look it over and make suggestions on wording, objective, etc ...

Reply:It really depends on a lot of things,,,,,,,,Your experience for the job you are seeking........your age plays a role.....your looks, your grammar...(the way you speak)


If there was one in particular that you really want to work at/for,


then call them and tell them you are just following up on your resume...Then ask if someone can talk to you on the phone...Tell them you are still interested in the job, if they say they filled the position, then ask them what it was you were lacking...
