to tell u the truth yes it does make a difference

i went to best buy for a job interview and stupid me i wore baggy pants and sagged alot with a big shirt cause i am in the hiphop culture. the person treated me like trash and like if i was a gutter person

so now i wear dress pants and a blazer. but i am a boy
Reply:i too love my tattoos. im addicted to getting them. currently i only have 7 but im working on 8 and 9 as we speak(their works in progress). i have had jobs where tattoos were forbidden. i worked for a major corporation for 2 yrs and no one even noticed i had them bc of my personality. im quiet and kept to myself for the most part. i didnt dress to hide them. the point of me having them is show them off. it wasnt until someone saw me and reported me to my supervisor that i was written up. she even said herself that she hadnt noticed them in 2 yrs. i have had people react like im somewhat different but overall my tattoos are well received wherever i go.
Reply:Yes I have my lower inner arm tattooed just above my wrist, about 6/4inch big.

This new years I met this guy and he commented on how he dont like tattoos, GRRRRRR like I care. Why tell me? Although I completely understand there are people who dont like them, what I dont get is why they feel the need to tell you. Especially the ones who say it in a nasty was, like I hate them or they are vile.

Since getting mine people have treated me different and I have come to realise people either love or hate them. But no matter what I love mine and will get more till I have a body suit. Vote me down if you must but least I am being who I want to be and happy with it.

Life isnt something to be afraid of, I love art and I want it on my body.

Every tattoo I have is individually designed for me.

Also Ive found that the most fun and interesting people who are stable are those who have been heavily tattooed. They also tend to be positive and aint afraid of commitment
Reply:Why are you going to church and or job interviews sleeveless?

I have a tattoo, but I made sure it's in a place no one can see unless I want them to.
Reply:A lot depends on what part of the country/world people are from. In bigger cities and whatnot, tattoos are more the norm then the exception. There are times that I feel like I'm being judged for my tattoos, but even more so for my facial piercings. Either way, I know it's not right, but it's something that you just have to accept. As far as jobs, just cover up your tats before you go to a job interview, then you won't have to worry about it, same thing with church.

I understand your frustration, I really do, but it's one of those things that you just have to expect. If you are going somewhere that you know people won't appreciate your ink/piercings...cover it up. Then you won't have to worry about it.

If you ever need to just get some frustration off your chest feel free to IM me or message me, whatever. Just know, you're not the only one that has to deal with this but it's just something that you'll have to thicken your skin up to. You have to get used to it because it's probably not going to change anytime soon.
Reply:No, never been treated different or stared at. I do get lots of compliments on them though.
Reply:I have visible tattoos and honestly, no one has treated me any different. I will have people come up to me to ask if they can get a better view of a certain tattoo and I always make sure to cover them when I went on interviews, but they have never impeded me getting the job I wanted or gotten negative attention.

Except once at a party a guy had a little too much to drink and was fascinated by my arm tattoo and kept touching it and caressing it, even after my husband intervened.

My best advice is to just ignore them. People who respond in such a negative way usually don't see the whole picture as far as tattoos go. And people like that are ones I am happy not to associate with.
Reply:Maria,

I think there will always be circumstances when older, conservative, maybe, narrow minded people will stare at a heavily inked person. It's really only in about the last fifteen years, approximately, that many women braved a tattoo. I don't judge a person by appearance, but for real acceptance, you would most likely find yourself more comfortable in a job or profession which involves the music, art, theatre, design, or perhaps fashion world....areas where there is more diversity. Think of how obese people are treated and stared at; they do nothing to deserve it either, but some people are just rude and thoughtless. Don't sweat the small stuff.
Reply:I've never been treated differently because of tattoos. In fact, when I got my newest piece on my side (about 12"x8") my boss couldn't stop telling me how cool it was! Also I have a Monroe piercing that I've had for 5 years. I just take it out for job interviews but when I ask them if it's okay to wear it, they've never said no. Once I just put it back in and hardly anyone even noticed! If you're having a hard time with job interviews just cover it up when you go out for them.

Your body modifications are for YOU. Don't let anyone else's opinions have any affect on you.
Reply:let them think whatever. u can put whatever you want on your body. if i were hiring, i think a tattoo would be good because it shows they stick by their decisions. people at church might b uptight, as i know many are. if u dont want them to stare at you, wear long sleeves or something. but dont be ashamed at all. a tattoo is beautiful art, and for those who cant deal with it...let them waste their time worrying about what is on YOUR body.
Reply:I have many visible tattoos and piercings. I haven't gone to church in years, but I used to go to my friend's youth group when I had more facial piercings (but no tattoos). The youth group leader bascially said that he believes people who wear black, and have piercings/tattoos have mental/emotional problems. That just pissed me off and offended me, so I quit going.

But other then that, people treat me no differently then I used to. Sure I get the "did that hurt?" question, but that's about it.

My job doesn't treat me any differently with more visible tattoos. Facial piercings aren't allowed, but I still get comments (by customers) on the piercings I have even if I'm not wearing them while on the clock.
Reply:My tattoo are all in places tat can be hidden under my scrubs (I am a Med. Assist.), but I know that my Doc makes me put in my nostril retainer while doing hair removal. I think that while at work you should do what they like, or what is approved by the dress code. But anywhere else, who cares? You got your tattoos for you, not anyone else. I know that my chest piece makes people stare when I where a tube top or a tank top, but I got it for me. Also, I think that if people stare, then they are just curious, so teach them something new. And let them know they have no reason to be offended!!!
