P.S This is a UK Based question

I have a C cat licence for i believe 7.5 tonne truck, but i see jobs 4 for HGV class 1 + 2 is this the same?
Cat C is for the old class 2

Cat C+E is for the old class 1

On a Cat C license you can drive any HGV as long as it does not tow a trailer,i.e a class 2,or Rigid.

If the HGV tows a trailer then it is a class 1,or Artic, which you now need to take another test for.

So if your licence is a Cat C you can drive a class 2.

If your licence is a Cat C1 however you can only drive a vehicle up to 7.5 tonnes.

If you have taken a test in a Rigid HGV then you will have a Cat C entitlement,if not you will have Cat C1.
Reply:if u passed b4 i think 1996 u can drive a 7.5 tonne and the only way u will have a HGV licence is if u have taken a seperate test for a HGV , which i dont think u have!
Reply:Category C is for any rigid vehicle over 3.5 tonnes. You can tow a trailer UP TO 750kg (equivalent to the old Class 2 licence).

Category C+E is for any vehicle over 3.5 tonnes, with a trailer OVER 750kg e.g. artics (equivalent to the old Class 1 licence).
Reply:Cat C is class 2,

Cat C + E is class 1

Class C1 is 7.5 ton and below, anything above 7.5 ton is Cat C.

Hope that helps
Reply:As David S answer but will beg to differ on the trailer remark, you can tow a trailer up to 750kgs mam on a 'C' cat entitlement behind a lorry. Any bigger trailer and you need Class1 (C+E)
Reply:Cat C on a licence enables you to drive a rigid vehicle over 7.5 tonnes with a trailer of up to 750kg.

It would be the same as a Class 2. You will need to renew the category at age 45 and then 5 yearly thereafter.

You should also have on your licence a provisional entitlement for CE which is a Class One (arctic) - which means that if you want to drive these you can just go ahead and take the theroy and practical test
