Honestly, it depends on where you lived when you got the charges. In the state where I live, successful completion of a first offender's program means that the incident is erased from your record. Some states may do it differently, though. It may be erased after a certain number of years, provided that you stay out of trouble during those years.
As for potential employers and their background checks, it is still a good idea to be honest and up front about your past brush with the law, because even if the courts tell you that it is erased from your record, some agencies that do background checks can dig up things that were supposedly erased.
